Club Triples

The 1st round of the club triples was held on Sunday with a disapponting turn out of 9 team to play. It meant we had 1 alignment game, that of Rod Cooper playing Trevor Price. Price fought hard but Cooper with Mark Clancy and Garry MacDonald too strong on the final 2 ends.

Mick Douthie took on Peter Coyle and the score line there was 13 all going in to the last end. Douthie took it to win by 1 shot.

Simon Alden played Keith Woolfenden and it was a one sided affair with the side packing too many guns to win 20-6. All 6 shots for Woolfy were 6 singles but they were unable to hold the multiples that Alden was able to get.

Lunchtime rolled around and Arthur Bartlett and Allan Mappin played there game. Mappin scooted away early but was pegged back and overtaken by Bartlett to see them win by 5.

Rod Cooper took on Vince Hughes and Cooper with the early game advantage was 12-2 up before Hughes commenced the comeback but it was all too late, Cooper a comfortable winner.

Cooper will play Bartlett on Friday night at 5.30pm in the 1st Semi final.

In the other semi Mick Douthie played Simon Alden and Douthie showing his years of experience in breezy conditions to be 8-1. John Smailes was leading well. David Guy then found his range and the game tightened up. Alden and Karl Vandersluys started to improve and they found themselves 14-12 with 2 to play and and holding a 4, but a superb drive from Chris Nash put the kitty in the drink and unable to be outdrawn. Smailes drew shot with his first and it wasn’t dislodged and we saw a draw, 14-14 after 18 ends. An extra end ensued, Smailed and Nash drawing well to hold a 2. Alden drove twice, the first missing by centimetres and the 2nd missing by millimetres and Douthie was able to advance to the final.
